Ministry of Transport (MOT) is advocating for the establishment of the National Shipping Industry Policy (Dasar Industri Perkapalan Negara, DIPN). This initiative aims to solidify and enhance the previous Malaysia Shipping Master Plan (MSMP). As the lead for Advisory Council 5 (AC5), AMIM consistently champions the interests of its members and the Shipbuilding and Ship Repair (SBSR) industry.
During the meeting, AMIM President, Mr. Adren Siow highlighted that AC5 proposed several initiatives, including increasing local build / content for Malaysian Govt / GLC projects, tax incentives for MRO services, stamp duty exemptions for shipbuilding contracts, and green shipping projects.
The Association of Marine Industries of Malaysia (AMIM) recently attended LIMA’23, the 17th Langkawi International Maritime and Aerospace Exhibition and Conference, in Langkawi, Malaysia. The event was held from May 23-28, 2023, and attracted over 525 exhibitors from 60 countries.
AMIM was a supporting organization for LIMA’23 (MOT Sponsored booth), and had the opportunity to promote products and services to a wide audience of potential customers. AMIM also participated in the conference program, on a variety of topics related to the marine industry.
In addition to attending the exhibition and conference, I also met with a number of important stakeholders, including the Panglima Angkatan Tentera, Chief Engineer of Royal Malaysia Navy, Minister of Transport, Minister of Agriculture and Food Security, Petronas Group Procurement Team and AMIM members. These meetings were an opportunity to discuss the latest trends in the marine industry especially SBSR industry and to explore ways to collaborate in the future.
The event provided an opportunity to showcase the capabilities of the Malaysian marine industry to a global audience, and it helped to strengthen AMIM’s relationships with key stakeholders.
AMIM is grateful for the opportunity to have attended LIMA’23 and to have met with so many important stakeholders. We are confident that the relationships we have developed will be beneficial to AMIM in the years to come.
In addition to the above, I would like to highlight the following:
AMIM’s booth at LIMA’23 was very well-received by visitors. We had a lot of interest in our products and services, and we were able to generate a number of leads.
The conference program was very informative and insightful. I learned a lot about the latest trends in the marine industry, and I was able to network with a number of experts in the field.
I was very impressed with the level of support that we received from the Malaysian government and they expressed their support for the Malaysian SBSR industry.
I am confident that AMIM’s participation in LIMA’23 will help to boost the Malaysian SBSR industry. The event has given us a platform to showcase our capabilities to a global audience, and it has helped us to strengthen our relationships with key stakeholders. I am excited to see what the future holds for the Malaysian SBSR industry, and I am confident that AMIM will play a leading role in its growth.
I would like to thank AMIM members who attended, visited AMIM booth and other members who supplied goodies & marketing collateral to be stationed at AMIM booth. In the meantime, I would also thank YBhg Dato’ Alexander Isaac, from Tropical Charters Sdn Bhd for sponsoring our accommodation and on-the-ground assistance to me. I would also thank AMIM Delegation headed by En Abd Ghafar Samat, AMIM VP (ASE), and other AMIM Management Committee such as Ir Hilmee Abu Kassim (MMHE), En Azhan Radiman (BNS), Mr. Alvin Teh (MYSS), Capt Mohd Noor Kasim (MNK Services).
AMIM Appointed to Lead Innovation in Maritime Services under Extended Malaysia Shipping Master Plan (MSMP)
Exciting news to share! Yesterday, we had a fantastic meeting with the Ministry of Transport (MOT) to discuss the Malaysia Shipping Master Plan (MSMP) and the crucial role that Advisory Council 5 (AC5) plays in promoting innovation in maritime ancillary services. As you may know, the NSPC is responsible for driving the MSMP, reporting directly to the Minister of Transport Malaysia. I’m thrilled to announce that the ministry has extended the MSMP until 2025, which is great news for our industry. Even better, AMIM has been appointed as the lead organization for AC5, and we are ready to play a key role in rejuvenating the way we tackle and elevate Malaysia’s maritime ancillary services, with a focus on the SBSR industry.
For those who need a refresher, MSMP is a comprehensive plan developed by the Malaysian government to enhance the competitiveness and efficiency of the country’s maritime and shipping industry, while NSPC is a high-level body established by the government to oversee the implementation of MSMP. AC5, on the other hand, is a group of industry experts and stakeholders who provide guidance and advice to the government on the implementation of MSMP.
From 2018 to 2022, we were successful in bringing up issues such as Bona Fide Status Tax Exemption, Pioneer Status for SBSR companies, Stamp Duty for Shipbuilding Contract, and human capital training/TVET for marine. And from 2023 to 2025, we plan to bring even more exciting ideas to the table. We are ready to make a positive impact in our industry, and if you have any ideas or concerns, now is the time to share them.
I know the information may seem lengthy, but it’s definitely worth a read – especially if you’re looking for something to keep you entertained during your lunch break or on a break from work. The updates and opportunities for us to make a positive impact in our industry are exciting, and I can’t wait to work together to make them happen. Have a great day everyone!
