Strengthening Maritime Collaboration: AMIM Hosts Courtesy Visit from CANSI and ASEF

12 July 2024 – Kelana Jaya, Selangor

We were honored today at AMIM to receive a courtesy visit from the China Association of The National Shipbuilding Industry (CANSI) and the Active Shipbuilding Experts’ Federation (ASEF). The delegation, led by Mr. Sun Wei, Chairman of CANSI and ASEF, and Vice President of China State Shipbuilding Corporation Limited (CSSC), had a fruitful and engaging session with our team.

During the meeting, we discussed various topics, including an overview of the shipbuilding and ship repair (SBSR) industries in China and Malaysia, relevant maritime policies, especially those related to green shipping and shipyards, and opportunities for international collaboration.

AMIM and CANSI have a longstanding relationship as founding members of ASEF since its establishment in 2007. Originally known as the Asia Shipbuilding Expert Federation, ASEF rebranded in 2018 to expand its membership and address a broader range of issues. In 2017, ASEF was granted consultative status by the IMO, contributing technical advisory and shipbuilders’ perspectives on IMO’s rules and regulations.

ASEF also oversees 8 special working groups (SWGs) focusing on various aspects of shipbuilding and maritime safety, including PSPC & Biofouling, Containership Safety, Ship Vibration Standards, GBS & CSR Maintenance, MASS & Related Issues, GHG Issues, Safe Mooring Operations & OLAW, and Propulsion & Steering Systems.

We wrapped up our session in true AMIM style with a delightful durian feast. The timing couldn’t have been better, as it’s durian season! We extend our heartfelt thanks to Muhibbah Marine Engineering for generously sponsoring this unique and aromatic party.

AMIM’s Inspiring Europort 2023 Journey in Rotterdam

28 November 2023 – Rotterdam, Netherlands

Looking back on our recent AMIM journey to Rotterdam, it feels like diving into a sea of inspiration! Our team, alongside 8 enthusiastic members, set sail on a Euro Trip from November 6th – 10th, exploring the maritime wonders awaiting us.

Our voyage commenced with an exhilarating visit to the Veth Propulsion Factory in Papendrecht. Here, we delved deep into technical presentations and tested cutting-edge propulsion systems aboard Veth’s vessel, guided by Tim Batten, Vice President of Sales at Twin Disc, who orchestrated a fantastic visit and networking program.

Transitioning from the factory, we docked at Rotterdam Ahoy for Europort 2023. The Opening Summit dazzled us with its theme, “Exploring the AI in Maritime.” Engaging panel sessions ignited discussions on AI’s potential domination, its profound possibilities, and its potential impact on industry equality.

Over 2 & a half captivating days, we traversed nine halls bursting with brilliance. Europort shone a spotlight on conferences, masterclasses, and award ceremonies, lauding exceptional innovations, remarkable talents, and sustainable initiatives. Key themes such as energy transitions, digitalization, and ship financing took center stage, drawing in a diverse audience from shipowners to maritime consultants.

In essence, Europort isn’t just an event—it’s an essential compass for maritime professionals and enthusiasts alike. It’s a hub where knowledge meets connections, where opportunities for growth and collaboration abound. Advancing SBSR: AMIM Team Explores Turkish Shipyard Innovations for Malaysia-Turkiye Collaboration

11-14 June 2023 – Turkiye, Istanbul

AMIM @ Istanbul, Turkiye

From 11th to 14th July 2023, the MIGHT & AMIM Team embarked on a thrilling adventure under the MY-TR Technology Collaboration Program (Aerospace & SBSR). Our AMIM team, with representatives from Boustead Naval Shipyard, Labuan Shipyard and Engineering, Universiti Kuala Lumpur MIMET, and Universiti Malaysia Terengganu, was ready to explore and learn!

Let’s rewind and relive the incredible highlights of our trip!

🚀Day 1: It all began with a bang as we visited ASFAT and the awe-inspiring Istanbul Naval Shipyard. Witnessing their operations up close left us in complete awe!

🛠️ Day 2: STM welcomed us, and we delved into their pivotal role in defense projects, especially in the Maritime sector. We had the privilege of exchanging knowledge and insights on defense technologies and strategies, covering space, electronics, and maritime. The experience was simply mind-blowing!

💡 Our excitement continued on Day 2 as we explored TUBITAK MARMARA Teknoken. The innovative research and development activities left us inspired! We networked with experts, scientists, and entrepreneurs from various fields and explored potential collaborations for thrilling technology-driven projects.

🚢 And there’s more! On Day 3, we visited Istanbul Shipyard—one of Turkiye’s finest shipyards. The knowledge we gained on naval shipbuilding, repair, and MRO operations, along with understanding ASFAT’s & STM’s crucial role in managing military factories and shipyards, was truly invaluable.

Our visit to Turkiye’s top-notch shipyards served as a benchmark for the Malaysian Government’s long-term strategy to localize our Shipbuilding & Ship Repair (SBSR) industry. Just imagine the possibilities if we adopt a similar model for government projects, including those for the Royal Malaysian Navy (RMN) and Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA). Exciting times ahead!

🤝 The good news is that both countries are eager to form partnerships through G2G National Projects that will benefit us all. With MIGHT’s impressive success in the aerospace sector and the establishment of MIGHT International, we’re confident that the SBSR industry can truly flourish under the Malaysia-Turkiye collaboration.

Together, let’s pave the way for an extraordinary future of innovation, co-creation, and commercialization.
