AMIM Appointed to Lead Innovation in Maritime Services under Extended Malaysia Shipping Master Plan (MSMP)

Exciting news to share! Yesterday, we had a fantastic meeting with the Ministry of Transport (MOT) to discuss the Malaysia Shipping Master Plan (MSMP) and the crucial role that Advisory Council 5 (AC5) plays in promoting innovation in maritime ancillary services. As you may know, the NSPC is responsible for driving the MSMP, reporting directly to the Minister of Transport Malaysia. I’m thrilled to announce that the ministry has extended the MSMP until 2025, which is great news for our industry. Even better, AMIM has been appointed as the lead organization for AC5, and we are ready to play a key role in rejuvenating the way we tackle and elevate Malaysia’s maritime ancillary services, with a focus on the SBSR industry.

For those who need a refresher, MSMP is a comprehensive plan developed by the Malaysian government to enhance the competitiveness and efficiency of the country’s maritime and shipping industry, while NSPC is a high-level body established by the government to oversee the implementation of MSMP. AC5, on the other hand, is a group of industry experts and stakeholders who provide guidance and advice to the government on the implementation of MSMP.

From 2018 to 2022, we were successful in bringing up issues such as Bona Fide Status Tax Exemption, Pioneer Status for SBSR companies, Stamp Duty for Shipbuilding Contract, and human capital training/TVET for marine. And from 2023 to 2025, we plan to bring even more exciting ideas to the table. We are ready to make a positive impact in our industry, and if you have any ideas or concerns, now is the time to share them.

I know the information may seem lengthy, but it’s definitely worth a read – especially if you’re looking for something to keep you entertained during your lunch break or on a break from work. The updates and opportunities for us to make a positive impact in our industry are exciting, and I can’t wait to work together to make them happen. Have a great day everyone!
