AMIM Sub-Committee on Marine Training meeting

AMIM’s Sub-Committee on Marine Training held its first meeting at Menara Boustead, KL on 26 March 2018.
The meeting was chaired by Assoc Prof Hamzah Jamal, Head of Section, Industrial Linkages at Malaysia Institute of Marine Engineering & Technology (MIMET) at Universiti Kuala Lumpur (UniKL), a member of AMIM. In attendance were 18 representatives from AMIM members Grade One Marine, Limbongan Batu Maung, MNK Services, PERNEPA and MSET and from the academia, namely Universiti Malaysia Terengganu and Universiti Teknologi Malaysia.
The Sub-Committee on Marine Training is one of seven formed to provide a platform for stakeholders in various sectors in Malaysia’s marine industries to discuss matters of interest and issues affecting them. The Sub-Committees cover Fisheries Boat Modernization Government Shiprepair Tariff, Government Procurement Policy, GST, Marine Training, Yachting Industry and Industrial Revolution 4.0. They provide a platform for AMIM members and players in the respective sectors to deliberate issues and discuss developments and bring up suggestions to AMIM’s Management Committee to take up with the appropriate parties. In this manner, AMIM can be more active in pursuing issues and matters of interest and benefit for its members as the membership of the sub committees consist of AMIM members who volunteer their time to be in them.
Participants at the meeting brainstormed ideas on how to streamline and upgrade marine training and education in Malaysia to produce human capital who have the necessary skills and knowledge required by the marine industry. The Sub-Committee will come up with a plan of action to meet this target and, along with other Sub-Committees, present their deliberations and suggestions which can help beef up the quality of marine education and training in the country.
